I have two reasons why I’m not doing music Mondays. Last week, it was Earth, but by the time I saw people posting about it, I was all over the place to post anything about it. My second reason is that I don’t want to stop listening to my book just to listen to music. A question that most of us have asked ourselves, or at least we should ask ourselves, is the question: how can we help our Earth? Some of the ideas/suggestions I searched, some came to mind, and others were discussed during a reading spring.
The bookish-related ideas:
- Read about the topic of climate change, which can be found both in fiction and non-fiction. Right now, I’m reading a book called When Tomorrow Burns by Tae Keller. For a nonfiction book, I picked The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times by Jane Goodall, Douglas Abrams, and Gail Hudson.
- Use your library card if possible, or if you want to read the book in physical form. Another option to support the author is Kindle or Kindle Unlimited, if available to you.
- There are climate challenge weeks/weekends where the host picks up an organisation where for every page read, money is donated if the person can do so.
Food ideas
- Eat more vegetables- I’m not pointing my fingers at anyone since I also consume fish, cheese and egg, but changing one meal to a vegetarian one can help in the grand scheme of things
- Replant foods, often things like seeds and inedible parts from fruits and vegetables can be replanted, so not only are they not going into waste, but you are also saving money.
- Buy local and in season. When you do so, you not only support the local economy but also do not aid the food in having to travel in order to be on your table.
Home ideas:
- Learn more about the local native species of flora and fauna to aid biodiversity.
- Use natural light instead of using the switch.
- Learn how to compost (this is something I haven’t learned yet; I was thinking about doing a post about it).
I have some more tips, but I wanted to keep this as short and simple as possible.
