With time, things change, and so does technology, and we humans need to adapt to it. The last five years or so, AI has been that new thing. The same feelings were here when the internet was developed, but in reality, jobs like content creation were. It is also annoying that authors like other creators. This is the same thing that happened to these jobs, jobs we can’t even dream of working that job or there is no need for it. Here’s a list of such works.
Leech collector
Leeches were used for medical treatment with burned patients, and thus, the question of how the leeches were collected. Collectors used animals’ wounds or wounds on their own bodies.
Hush shopkeeper
There was a time in history, during the Prohibition, when in America, you couldn’t consume or sell alcohol. In some shops, owners would still sell to people they trust. So, where do the hush shopkeepers come to play? People would report the secret business to the feds and earn money that way.
Alchemist
In ancient times, they were believed to be magical because their work was to convert chemicals into gold, or, in other words, to develop special elixirs to cure diseases or grant immortality.
Caddy butcher
For some reason, the first time I read it as ‘candy’ instead of Caddy and in my head I was like, why would anyone need a candy butcher? Anyway, it was a butcher who specialised in horse meat, which, until the 1940s, was pretty popular in the UK and the US and considered an option instead of beef. If you were going to the US and wanted to take horse meat, think twice, since it is illegal in some states.
Linotype operator
It might be dumb of me, but by the title alone, I would have never guessed what this job was, but now I know, and I will tell you. A linotype operator is someone who used to work on a machine with the same name. What it used to do was to print newspapers and magazines in the 19th century. These operators arranged the letters, spaces and numbers to produce moulds for text. With everything going online, there is no longer a need for this job.
