If you read yesterday’s post, you know I had a tricky week, but instead of what I should have been doing, I ended up talking to strangers, so I don’t know if I will have posts this week, but I will. If I don’t, it’s not the end of the world. I picked a song that is nearly half my age old, so the likelihood of you having heard it is high. My memory on the topic came right after I remembered this song, so I will make it work. The song is The One That Got Away by Katy Perry.
I was an older child, like 9 or 10, when the government was thinking of sending soldiers to fight, and as a child I honestly feared they would send my dad. As an adult, I know how dumb that sounds since my dad had been out of service for years by then. I remember that day going to church and praying my heart out for my dad to stay with us. Now, my dad lived with us, but we never had a close relationship growing up, and some things aren’t mine to say. It’s pretty weird how memory works.
The One That Got Away :
Summer after high school, when we first met
We’d make out in your Mustang to Radiohead
And on my eighteenth birthday, we got matching tattoos
Used to steal your parents’ liquor and climb to the roof
Talked about our future like we had a clue
Never planned that one day I’d be losing you
In another life, I would be your girl
We’d keep all our promises, be us against the world
In another life, I would make you stay
So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away
I was June, and you were my Johnny Cash
Never one without the other, we made a pact
Sometimes when I miss you, I put those records on, whoa
Someone said you had your tattoo removed
Saw you downtown, singing the blues
It’s time to face the music, I’m no longer your muse
But in another life, I would be your girl
We’d keep all our promises, be us against the world
In another life, I would make you stay
So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away
The one
The one
The one
The one that got away
All this money can’t buy me a time machine, no
Can’t replace you with a million rings, no
I should’ve told you what you meant to me, whoa
‘Cause now I pay the price
In another life, I would be your girl
We’d keep all our promises, be us against the world
In another life, I would make you stay
So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away
The one (The one)
The one (The one)
The one (The one)
In another life, I would make you stay
So I don’t have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away
The Prayer:
Where does prayer come into play?
The words that were said long ago
Learning them without knowing the meaning
Since you were taught to believe
That something out of our earth
Is there to protect you
