Smalltown by Thomas Jenssen

So, this post might break me or make me just because it’s something that I passed from this week, and no one else knows outside of the person I chatted with. Well, in reality, two things happened: I was invited to be on TV as an activist, but one of the topics being discussed can be a trigger to me, and I really tried to explain that to the TV person this, but they didn’t get what I was trying to say and going into a deeper conversation would cause me guilt I don’t want to deal with so I’m guessing it will stay unanswered.

The second one is pretty sensitive to me for some reason, so while I listen to a trans romance, I will tell you more about me. I’m the type who will let you know if I connect with you sometimes on the first day of knowing you; most people I know would say that’s too rushed, and I agree. This time around, I waited weeks for one simple reason: I didn’t want to get attracted to this person, so I waited weeks, hoping it would go away, but as you can guess, it didn’t, so I told them how I feel and as I thought it was one-sided. So, when I heard the song Smalltown by Thomas Jenssen. The lyrics are about a person who lives in a smalltown where they can be themselves, which is sadly pretty relatable to my own story.

Smalltown Lyrics

In a small town, where dreams die

Lived a boy with big ambitions

Through the struggles, and hurdles

had to rebuild his own vision

Said he’d never make it far,

But he was bound to prove them wrong

While everything comes at a cost

let me be the one to tell you

Kill the lights in the room, you’re shining

There is hope in the darkest times

If I get to, I will tell you

You don’t need to be afraid to

Ooh, ooh

Ooh, ooh

You were hiding, at the school dance

No one knew if you were straight

And they asked you, and teased you

couldn’t find the words to say

No one thought you’d make it far,

But you were bound to prove them wrong

While everything came at a cost

let me be the one to tell you

Kill the lights in the room, you’re shining

There is hope in the darkest times

If I get to, I will tell you

You don’t need to be afraid to

Kill the lights in the room, you’re shining

There is hope in the darkest time and

If I get to, I will tell you

You don’t need to be afraid to

All alone, feeling down

But you better know you’re

You’re the star you’re meant to be

Ooh

Kill the lights in the room, you’re shining

There is hope in the darkest times

If I get to, I will tell you

You don’t need to be afraid to

Kill the lights in the room, you’re shining

There is hope in the darkest times

If I get to, I will tell you

You don’t need to be afraid to

Ooh, ooh

Ooh, ooh

In a smalltown where dreams die

Looks:

It’s not about looks

Since as you know, I never saw your face

But sometimes feelings are served

Even if we don’t want to feed them

The sad thing is

That I see the light, you are

When you don’t
