So, in August, I thought I did well at not getting Kindle books, but I was wrong. I got 24 books for free. This time, I have a reason: most are for October and the trickortreat-athon. Once I finish the reading stats Excel sheet, hopefully I will be able to see which books I read so I can delete them. Anyway, today, I’m doing the book-buying Habits book tag, and the original creator is a Booktuber named Megan Oliver, who no longer has a channel. I saw it on Alli The Book Giraffe, so please check out her blog. I promise I will answer honestly, even if the answer makes me feel guilty.
Where do you buy your books?
I used to love going to a book fair once or twice a year, typically with my sister, but since I have been bedbound since April, I haven’t gone anywhere. So, my go-to right now is the Amazon free section.
Do you ever preorder books, and if so, do you do this in-store or online?
I’m weird about this; the only time I pre-ordered a book was when the author needed the review on release day, which, thinking about it now, doesn’t make much sense.
On average, how many books do you buy a month?
I thought about this hard, and I think it is between 15 and 30 at most. I typically read them in the current month or the next month.
Do you use your local library?
As a kid, my mother took me every week; as a teen, I read the books my family didn’t want anymore. When we were moving apartments, I remember trying to apply for one since I was told that the one with my dead name had expired, but when I told them I wasn’t living there yet. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter where you live or what your name is to have access to books. I used to pay for the local LGBTI+ library, but I never lent any books. Accessibility was an issue, and they only have physical books.
What is your opinion on library books?
I have always had this dream of a library accessible to everyone; I believe the public library should be a place for the community. I don’t think it’s a dumb thing to say when I say that it takes a lot of money to look after books. I live on an island, and that’s the life I know. My question is, why aren’t we using this source for the community? At the end of the day, books are meant to be read, no matter the format you read in.
If so, how many books can you/do you borrow at a time?
As I said, I don’t currently have one, but I really wish I could get Kindle Unlimited because I would like to read self-published books, since I believe they get paid per page read. If you have Kindle Unlimited, here’s my question for you: Is there a limit on how many books can you borrow at one time?
How do you feel about Charity shops/second-hand books?
Here’s a little life story for you: my first job ever was taking care of a charity shop for an animal shelter; I was pretty bad at it, but that isn’t the point. My boss allowed me to get books, read them, and then bring them back.
Do you keep your read and TBR pile together/on the same bookshelf or not?
I try not to since I now have shelves, but it doesn’t always work since I can’t physically move books around.
Do you plan to read all the books you own?
If we are talking about my physical TBR, I hope so, but the issue is that I don’t know what books I own, so I can’t plan around it.
What do you do with books you own that you feel you’ll never read/felt you didn’t enjoy?
I donate them, but back when I used to read a lot of physical books, I did a lot of book swapping locally, as in, you would pay a 5-euro donation to a cat shelter, and you could swap as many books as you want.
Have you ever donated books?
Yes, I believe the last time I did was at a Little Free Library. Way back when I had friends who lived here, I would pass them along to them if they were interested.
Have you ever been on a book-buying ban?
I have tried, failed 98% of the time, but on the bright side, I now only get books I’m interested in.
Do you feel that you buy too many books?
Yes and no; I will explain: yes, since I sometimes get overwhelmed with all the books I have to read. On the other hand, I have been getting stuff for readathons, so I know I will read them.
