Losing The Ability To Write

Just because I can’t write

With pen and ink

Doesn’t mean I don’t have words to say

The grey period

Where I had to find a way

Without thinking of my body

As just a failure

  1. This is a deeply moving piece. Its quiet strength lies in the way it separates the ability to write from the ability to express. The words speak of resilience, identity, and finding a new way forward when the body no longer cooperates as it once did.

  2. This is a deeply poignant and thought-provoking piece. It sheds light on a painful reality with remarkable empathy—the impossible choices many mothers may feel forced to confront when a relationship becomes unsafe.

The contrast between “a place of safety” and “leaving their children behind” is especially powerful. It shows that for a mother, leaving an abusive or dangerous situation may never feel like a simple act of self-preservation; the fear of being separated from her children can become an overwhelming barrier.
