Sorry is five letters, but so does loved; one has a negative tint and the other a positive one. What most people don’t know is the background from which sorry comes from. I say it often, so people start to think I don’t put much meaning into it, which isn’t the case. People who have dealt with heavy trauma in their lives and use that word as a way to protect themselves.
The next release song, Sorry, by NF and James Arthur, the first verse goes like ‘I crossed the line and broke an oath’, which made me think of marriage vows since both parties say they will protect each other until death brings them apart. It might be just my point of view, but nowadays, people can start throwing words at the most minor disagreements, and words can hurt for a lifetime for the one receiving them and the children who might hear.
Sorry Lyrics:
I crossed the line and broke an oath
Swore I would never let you go
Blamed you for things that weren’t your fault, yeah
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Oh, I wish that I’da held you close and given you what you deserve
But that’s what everybody says when it’s too late to fix a bridge that’s burned
That’s burned
I’ve been waitin’ by the phone just prayin’ that you’d call me up
To say you wish you woulda stayed and never said goodbye to us
I’m not lookin’ for a fight, baby, I just want to talk to ya
And say I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Mmm, yeah
I bent the truth and broke your trust, mmm, yeah
Treated you like you weren’t enough (you were enough), ooh
Said I’d be there but never was (I never was), hmm
But I’m sorry, hmm, yeah
I’m sorry
Oh, I wish that I had held you close and given you what you deserve (I wish, I wish), hmm
But that’s what everybody says when it’s too late to fix a bridge that’s burned (oh)
That is burned
I’ve been waitin’ by the phone just prayin’ that you’d call me up (call me up)
To say you wish you woulda stayed and never said goodbye to us (never would’ve said goodbye)
I’m not lookin’ for a fight, baby, I just wanna talk to ya (I just want to talk to you, baby)
And say I’m sorry (I’m sorry)
Yeah, I’m sorry (yeah)
And say I’m sorry
Yeah, I’m sorry (oh, yeah)
And say I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Sweet or Bitter
Will that sweet tongue
Turn into a knife
Which comes out of nowhere
From sugar words to bitter ones
And your love might forgive
But the mark will still be there
