Top Ten Tuesday/ Cozy Read

So, I did a mess, I thought Dewey’s readathon was happening next weekend, but no, it was last weekend. I still finished 11 books, even though I was hours late. There are a few hours left, and when I finish a bunch of things back to back, I start to get sluggish, so my TV is the only thing on right now. I will move the rest of my novellas to November and take a lazy reading month, excluding the new releases I posted about. Well, I should be ashamed because when I saw this week’s prompt, I checked it out and got free novels. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl, who has a new weekly topic.

October 21: Cozy/Atmospheric Reads

Goodreads Blurb:

A witch in hiding. An innocent spell. Let the mayhem begin. Hazel Hardy knows she shouldn’t tempt fate, but she’s desperate and…hello, cheap real estate. Her family’s fears don’t stop her from opening a teashop in the quaint New England village where the townsfolk once drowned her ancestor for being a witch. Unfortunately, times haven’t changed…much, anyway.

No worries. She swears she won’t stir up trouble…in a cauldron or otherwise. But then her customer’s husband turns up dead. Whispers of “murderous witch” point toward a seemingly innocent girl, and Hazel can’t resist poking her nose where it doesn’t belong.

Real trouble shows up when she meets the charming police chief, who doesn’t like witches and who doesn’t hide his attraction to her. Worse, she’s brewing a crush on him, too, and she finds she adores searching for clues to help him solve the case. She convinces herself she’ll be fine as long as they find the murderer before she accidently uses magic again or before he notices the crazy cat from her grandmother’s haunted house that’s stalking her.

Goodreads Blurb:

Witches, cats, and murder — oh, my!

Socialite/Aromatherapist Ella Sweeting wasn’t expecting much for her twenty-second birthday, certainly not three magical Aunts (and their cats) who barge into her home and inform her she’s a witch. Which turns out to be a nice surprise, after all.

But just as she’s getting to know her eccentric Aunts and learn to harness her newfound magic, a shocking murder threatens the entire world she’s just uncovered. Her mother’s best friend is found dead, with her Aunts’ fingerprints all over the murder weapon, and Ella must act to save her family.

Combining forces with Rory, the cute mailman she’s been crushing on, Ella uses her skills of scent and sense to track the killer. But when clues cross social classes, Ella realizes that catching the killer could alienate Rory.

Will Ella catch the killer and still get her man?

Goodreads Blurb:

She’s trying to report on the facts, but someone is framing her for murder.

A local nectarine orchard burning to the ground is front page news, and as the only reporter for the Tri-Town Times, Tilly Donner is determined to uncover the facts and find out who started the fire. That is, until she finds the main suspect with a knife in his chest, taking his dying breaths.

With the help of her two best friends and the local small town gossip vine, Tilly uncovers clues to help the police solve the case. But her plan backfires when the Sheriff believes the evidence leads to Tilly being the killer.

Can Tilly discover who committed the murder and prove her innocence before her reputation and life are ruined?

Goodreads Blurb:

Olympian Brenna Battle once had the fire. Now, she’s just burned out—and burned by love. She’s ready to retire from competitive judo and pursue a new dream in a new town, with her biggest supporter, her recently divorced little sister, Blythe. But on their first day in town, Blythe falls for local sleaze-bag reporter, Ellison Baxter, and their small-town welcome is stained by Baxter’s murder. The weapon—Blythe Battle’s hair brush.

In this fast-paced, fun cozy mystery, Brenna, the proud new owner of the building that formerly housed Bonney Bay’s lone recreational opportunity for kids, Little Swans Ballet, is ready to turn tutu-clad powder-puffs into little warriors by opening a judo school for kids in its place. But now she must clear her sister’s name and save her new dream from ending even more disastrously than her Olympic hopes. Brenna must deal with one crazy member of the local police force, who’s determined to see the sisters pay—and another cop, whose deep brown eyes just might drive Brenna crazy—in a way her battered heart just can’t take.

Goodreads Blurb:

And to make matters worse, because they are so new in town, who can they trust? The case turns darker when a second murder takes place and more unknowns are tossed into the mix. Uncertain what path to take or what to do, Rita and Rhonda have no choice but to wait until the killer comes for them, causing the twin sisters to reckon with frightening questions.

Goodreads Blurb:

A pretty little town
An inheritance
A break-in
A body

When her Great Aunt Jane dies, Edie inherits her house—and a load of trouble. The frozen corpse is just the beginning.

Can she trust her binocular-wielding neighbour, or the handsome pub owner? And what about the motives of a dead woman? Jane abandoned her when she was a child. Why make Edie her heir now?

As the threats get personal and the danger grows, Edie discovers that someone wants her gone—by any means necessary.

But she has secrets of her own, and she won’t leave until she’s ready.

Goodreads Blurb:

Ginger Blackstone had been looking for a change in her life. Getting a call from her home town’s Sheriff with the message, “We’ve arrested your grandmother for murder,” wasn’t it.

Three bodies later and Ginger finds herself, and the hot new small-town doctor, up to their broomsticks in trouble. Ginger sets out to find the real killer before her missing sister’s name shows up on a list of the dead in The Book of Ill Deeds.

Goodreads Blurb:

Welcome to Westhaven – or welcome back, in my case. Hurrying home to be at my dad’s bedside wasn’t exactly how I planned my small-town homecoming, especially when my shoot-for-the-stars successful life is hanging by a thread. But there’s something comforting about being back in my hometown, even if it does mean crossing paths with my high school frenemies more than I’d like.

When my favorite former teacher dares me to enter the winter pie festival I need all the help I can get – and when the festival day ends in a murder, I find myself much more invested in catching a killer than I expected to be…

Goodreads Blurb:

Marie Fortune, 39, a successful dog groomer in Boston, has had enough of catering to the wealthy and their pampered dogs. Realizing it is time to make a change, she quits and heads to a small coastal town in Maine where she remembers fond summers as a kid. Marie expects to go for a brief getaway—and is shocked to learn that her great-aunt left her an inheritance: a dilapidated, historic house high up on a hill overlooking the harbor.

Marie feels an instant connection. Although the locals tell her it would be folly, Marie decides to renovate and give it a second life as a B&B.

But there is one thing she couldn’t have planned for: the house is haunted.

Two things, actually: her great-aunt also left her a dog—and he is far from a typical dog.

When an unexpected death occurs soon thereafter, solving the crime will be more than just a matter of curiosity for Marie—her very future may depend on it.

Goodreads Blurb:

She’s never believed in ghosts… until now.
As the owner of Sedona Bed and Breakfast, Bernadette Maxwell has always played up the rumors that her business was haunted. She’s never believed it herself, even though she can’t explain the odd odors that sometimes permeate the room or why a blast of cold air comes out of nowhere… until she has an accident and can suddenly see her resident ghost—her crazy, fun-loving, hippie grandmother, Ruby.

When a guest is found dead, the police rule it a homicide. It becomes apparent Bernadette is not only a suspect, but also in the crosshairs of the murderer. With no one to turn to for help, she relies on Ruby to assist her in a search for clues to bring the killer to justice.
