Birthdays From Around The World

I won’t lie; this idea simply came to me since I had my own birthday two days ago. I can’t believe I made it to nearly made it 30 years on earth for a baby to whose family doctors told will only live a few hours. Luckily, many doctors and people got it wrong when it came to my case. Hence why, I say to myself, what will be will be since you can’t control some things in your life. Today, I’m on the lookout for birthday traditions from around the world to share with you.

The Birthday Bumps

It’s a tradition shared by the UK, Canada, and Ireland. Your friends meet together and bump you up equal to your number of years, then add one more for good luck.

In Denmark

You can’t celebrate your birthday without a Denmark flat tradition that says you have to put them everywhere on your desk at work, at your dinner table, and outside your house on your birthday, so when I say everywhere, I do mean everywhere. I still don’t know what the original meaning is, so if you do, let me know in the comments.

Traditional Dolls in Mexico

In Mexico, traditional dolls are given as a birthday gift as a symbol of cultural heritage and joy.

In Poland

Beautiful decorative plates, typically hand-made, are given as birthday gifts and passed from one generation to another. They are often seen as a sign of abundance and family coming together.

In Israel

A child’s birthday is celebrated by the child wearing a crown made of leaves or flowers. Their chair is decorated with steamers. The party guests dance around the chair, and the parents lift the chair with the child sitting in it. It gives a religious vibe, but if it is something related to religion, I don’t understand its meaning.
