I rewatched The Last Song unplanned, and for whatever reason, I confused it with Hannah Montana the movie, but anyway, I remember dying to watch this movie, and I remember how and where I watched, which wasn’t very legal, but back then, everyone did it. The word ‘last’ stuck with me because when we use it, we often associate it with the end. I know that the LGBTI+ community is at a higher risk of mental health issues. If we think that things are getting better, which might be the case in single-handed cases, but according to a 2026 article from Mental Health America, 55% of LGBTQ+ screeners reported frequent suicidal ideation compared to less than 40% of non-LGBTQ+ screeners, and it is even higher in the trans community. The life expectancy of trans people of colour is in their 30s, and the cause often falls under two things: hate crime or mental health
Now, if you have been reading this blog, you know I’m not a political person, but America is a huge country compared to places like Malta. The issue is not only that LGBTI+ people aren’t given the protection and support needed. In some places, such laws are being overturned, and the same issue is going on in Europe. I believe our beliefs are overshadowing a fundamental human truth: we are living beings and have a right to live. By the way, the whole time I was doing this post, I thought the movie track was called “When I Look At You” by Miley Cyrus.
When I Look At You by Miley Cyrus.
Everybody needs inspiration
Everybody needs a song
A beautiful melody
When the nights are long
‘Cause there is no guarantee
That this life is easy
Yeah when my world is falling apart
When there’s no light
To break up the dark
That’s when I, I
I look at you
When the waves are flooding the shore
And I can’t find my way home anymore
That’s when I, I
I look at you
When I look at you
I see forgiveness
I see the truth
You love me for who I am
Like the stars hold the moon
Right there where they belong
And I know I’m not alone
Yeah when my world is falling apart
When there’s no light
To break up the dark
That’s when I, I
I look at you
When the waves are flooding the shore
And I can’t find my way home anymore
That’s when I, I
I look at you
You appear just like a dream to me
Just like kaleidoscope colors that cover me
All I need
Every breath that I breathe
Don’t you know you’re beautiful
Yeah, yeah, yeah
When the waves are flooding the shore
And I can’t find my way home anymore
That’s when I, I
I look at you
I look at you
Yeah,
Whoa-oh,
You appear just like a dream to me
Power:
It shouldn’t be a money game
In the name of religion
When we were all created with
No matter which one you believe in
They say that love is unconditional
Therefore, it should be freely
