So, outside of a post or two on my blog, the last time I wrote a movie review was in school. I find this pretty challenging, which is why I want to do it even if I fear no one would want to read it. My Secret Santa was released on Netflix last December, and the first time I started it, I left it in the background but didn’t understand a thing, so I’m glad I restarted it.
Taylor Jacobson is a single mother trying to do all she can for her daughter year-round, especially this holiday season, but she’s fired from her job just before the season begins. Her rent is overdue, and her daughter has been begging her to join the snowboarding club. She’s willing to do any job, but no one is hiring. She overhears an assistant saying that there’s an opening for a job, but when she asks for more details, she’s told that unless she’s an older man who can play the part of Santa for the resort, she can’t have the job.
She had other plans, with the help of her brother, she transforms into ‘Hugh’. On the other hand, we meet Matthew—the son who got away and was given the last chance to take the resort under his hands. When he met Hugh, he was left surprised by how easy it was to open up to Hugh. Little did he know that it was because he had met Taylor, and, to cut a long story short, he and Taylor started dating.
I don’t want to give many more plot details, but here are the main thoughts I had about this movie: a mother goes to any lengths as long as she can make her child happy. The bullying element here really pulled at my heartstrings. Luckily, Zoey, the daughter, had Hugh to save the day. One last thing, I’m aware that it isn’t the best movie review because the thought of putting it together scared me, but I’m glad I tried it out.
