I haven’t done one of these in a while, even if they are one of my favourite types of content to read or watch. Additionally, while I’m participating in the readathon, I’m reading at random, as there are 50 prompts, and I’ve completed 14 of them so far. I’d say it is going great, and I’ve logged nine books, which is something I’m proud of since it’s something I struggle to do.
Anyway, I have read a few books with Halloween/ Fall vibes, and I want to share my thoughts about them. If I don’t do it now, I will forget. I’m starting with the one I just finished, The Last Light in the Stacks by Thomas Baker. It’s a short novella, 32 pages in all. It’s about two sisters who work at a small library that is threatened with closure. The sisters are a bit of opposites character-wise (reminded me of my sister and I). Enter Chloe, the library’s spirited volunteer. Then, something happens (I won’t say what due to spoilers). If you have a community coming together, this is for you.
My next pick is Unlucky in Love by Kiva Hart, the first book in the series, because, for whatever reason, the author named everything the same, which made it pretty confusing. Maeve, a bookstore owner (do you see the theme here?), was roped into going to a Halloween masquerade by her best friends. On the other hand, we have Eli, who attends the event because he can’t say no to his niece. The two end up in a conversation, but when Maeve disappears from his view, he doesn’t know who he was talking to, since they were both wearing masks. It has a Cindella re-telling vibe, which is one of the many elements I love about it. It was close to five stars for me, but I was missing the goosebumps.
