Summer Time Things

I’m trying to keep my summer content as light as possible, given how heavy the summer heat is, pun intended. As I said last week, I have some curious questions related to this season. I found some Guinness World Records related to this time, but the article is from 2012, so I worry about its validity. However, before the questions and records, I want to share some quotes I found and enjoyed.

“The dandelions and buttercups gild all the lawn; the drowsy bee stumbles among the clover tops, and summer sweetens all to me.” —James Russel Lowell.

“Summertime. It was a song. It was a season. I wondered if that season would ever live inside of me.” —Benjamin Alire Sáenz.

“And so, with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” —F. Scott Fitzgerald.

“One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by.” —Jeanette Walls.

Questions:

Where is the most visited beach during the summer period?

I found an article by Matador Network published last month, which said that likely the most visited beach in the USA is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the most populated international is Cancun, Mexico. The article sounds a bit USA-biased, so that’s something to keep in mind data-wise.

Has it ever snowed in summer?

Honestly, I wasn’t surprised that it still snows in some areas of the world, like Alaska. What I was looking for were the rare events in areas you might not typically get during this time of year. The latest I found was in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming in mid-July. Several inches of snow were collected at elevations above 9000 feet in 2022.

Why do our hair and nails grow quicker in summer?

As you know, I keep it real here. I watched videos of answers and read posts, but they didn’t provide the same insights as AI did, and I couldn’t open them to read them thoroughly. So, I went to ChatGPT, and here’s what I learnt in my own words. Our bodies tend to be warmer, improving circulation, which aids in the delivery of more oxygen and nutrients. We get an increase in Vitamin D thanks to the sun. We opt for a lighter diet and drink more water.

The Records:

Longest line of garden flamingos

The original record was set in 2016 in Callawassie Island, South Carolina, with 1,058 flamingos. However, in 2022, this record was broken by BOPC, which placed 4,280 “FLOmingos” (named after Frederick Law Olmsted himself) also in South Carolina.

Largest Hawaiian shirt

As you might have guessed, this one goes to Hawaii. The creator is Hilo Hattie from Honolulu. I’ve read three articles about this, and they have different measurements, so I’m using the latest, dated 2022. It is 168 inches or 14 feet around the chest, 161 inches at the waist and 60-1/2 inches for the neck.
