Sogna, Ragazzo, Sogna by Alfa and Roberto Vecchioni

Here is a song that I can’t hear that often since it makes me cry my eye out every time to the point that I forgot what it was titled, but with it being the week of Sanremo, it came back to me. Mind you, I haven’t heard the song that won. I speak Italian, so I understand the lyrics, but the way this song is written and the music it joins in with a powerful emotion. To most people, this is a love song, but to me, this is telling the story of an artist that no one believes they could make something of themselves with their art. The song I‘m talking about is Sogna, Ragazzo, Sogna, the cover version of Alfa and Roberto Vecchioni, which I heard in Sanremo last year.

So, confession time, I tried to copy and paste the lyrics translated into English, but I didn’t manage, so instead, I’m skipping to my poem. So, in the middle of this post, I got distracted and went on the lookout for novel-in-verse releases in 2025. I found It’s All or Nothing, Vale, by Andrea Beatriz Arango, which gives me the same vibes and concept of the song; I read from this author before and love their work. Sadly, this novel isn’t available for me to read yet.

Fingerprints:

When you leave your fingerprints

Down in the layer

Of the paper

Lines that you hold with care

Like stones that are rare

That few are able to see

Like the magic in a dream

That you choose to believe

Sorry for how over the place this post is, but I feel it ties together in a way, so I’m still posting it.

  1. It’s such a beautiful song! This cover version gave it new life. From this year’s Sanremo, I definitely recommend listening to Lucio Corsi’s song, Volevo essere un duro. It didn’t win, but was definitely one of my favourites: lovely melody and touching lyrics are always a great combination!
