Twice A Year Book Tag

I have a feeling that after this book tag, there will be a post about why people are leaving blogging for YouTube. As a matter of fact, I know my friends would follow me if I had a BookTube channel; they would follow me, but when I start talking about my blog, I feel like I’m in the wrong decade or something. The reason for questioning this is the creator of this book tag, Becklebooks, since Bec is still active on BookTube but not on their blog.

How many books do you think you’ll read this year?

Well, Goodreads says 713, but Goodreads has been doubling my books a lot lately, so I’d say I’m at 600 books, which, when compared to last year.

Have you made a specific reading goal or target that you need to check in with and keep track of?

Focus on book club picks because I have been really bad at it, and it feels like I’ve failed a bit as a good friend.

How many 5-star books have you read so far this year?

I will have to look because I don’t know at the top of my head. I believe 10 to 15 books. Let’s see if it was a winning bet! The answer is 17, so I was off by two books.

What’s a popular book you own and haven’t read yet?

I haven’t read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (something is making me fear it, but do I know why? No. And the other one is The Empyrean by Rebecca Yarros; I read Fourth Wing, and my opinion is the unpopular one.

Do you want to reread anything in the next few months?

I would love to reread some of the middle-grade books I read; however, there is a but: I worry I won’t feel the same about a lot of 5-star books the second time around.

What new release are you anticipating for the second half of the year?

Dasia [Forever] by Nic Stone Release Date 8/10/26

Goodreads Blurb:

After nineteen days of “induction chemotherapy,” Dasia Monae Riley knows no one else should be in her hospital room . . .

But there she is: Jameson “Jimmy” Jeffs. Another cancer patient who’s seemingly everything Dasia is not: rich, well cared for, and a smidge childish (in Dasia’s opinion).

However, Dasia soon discovers that their commonalities go beyond a random, incurable disease . . . like older brothers who are gone, baby brothers who need them, and struggles with friends at school.

As Dasia and Jimmy chat, Dasia’s memories unfold in the unsent “letters” (read: poems) Dasia wrote to her incarcerated older brother. And over the course of one life-changing night, two girls who are at their lowest fight to keep each other uplifted. When you hit rock bottom, what does it take to survive and allow yourself to hope again?

What are you planning to pick up next, and do you think you’ll rate it 4 stars or above?

Sleeps Four
by Beth Voss

Amazon Blurb:

THREE STRANGERS. ONE CHEAP WEEKEND RENTAL. A HOUSE THAT WAS ALREADY LISTENING.

Dana, Bree, and Theo don’t know each other, and they don’t plan to for long. A travel app matched them for one thing only: splitting an $84 rental for a free weekend, no strings, no follow-up. Dana wants quiet and a door that locks. Bree wants a break from a life she’s been avoiding. Theo just wants a place to park his car and his thoughts for a couple of days. None of them wants a friend, a secret, or a story. They especially don’t want a fourth person in the group chat they never invited.

But the house they booked isn’t finished being built. Every room they’ve ever joked about, wished for, or typed without thinking twice is already waiting for them somewhere behind a door that wasn’t there an hour ago. And somewhere between the group chat and the guest list, something has been listening to every word they’ve said about the place since before they even arrived.

By the time they understand what shares the chat with them, the front door isn’t a door anymore. It’s a wall. And the only way out is to become the three most boring people alive at the exact moment their lives depend on being anything but.

So tell us: if the last thing you ever type could decide whether you get to leave a room, what would you be brave enough to say?
