Freebie Friday #1

Today is the first day of 2026 for me,  and it hasn’t started the way I planned, which isn’t a bad thing, since when I woke up, my dogs demanded a cuddling session, so I had to remove the laptop, but I read my first book of 2026, which is a plus.

Hey Everyone

As you know, I’ve been trying a new thing for me, where I share a book I love and provide a free eBook link to it, if possible.

Why did I pick this novel?

Here I am, wanting to share a book with you, but I have no idea how to review. It’s a thriller my sister gifted me this Christmas, so I went into it not knowing much about it. It is Sweet Dreams by Anders Roslund, set in Sweden; it was one of the few novels I read set in this country. We meet Detective Ewert Grens, investigating a cold case involving a missing girl, as another girl disappears on the same day. The same week, the family of the first girl wants to declare her dead so they can do her funeral and move on. There’s one dilemma, though: what if the girls aren’t gone? This is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone.

First Lines:

DIZZY.

So dizzy.

He tried to stay still.

As usual. A deep breath.

He closed his eyes, waited.

Until it passed. Until the world ceased spinning, and he was able to reach out for the flower he liked so much. Life everlasting. That’s what it was called. A tall plant that arrived, proud and smiling, at the end of every summer. Ewert Grens momentarily forgot the pain in his hip as he gathered up its fallen leaves and moistened its buds, which bloom in clusters, with a watering can. He ran his hand slowly over the white cross – as close as he could get to her. His fingertips followed the ridge that formed her name on the simple brass plate. The only person he had ever held tight and who had held him tight.

I miss you.

Goodreads Blurb:

Grens is forced call upon his retired partner, Piet Hoffman, the best undercover operative he knows, to try to infiltrate the group.
