Save Our Dogs by Molly Weinfurter

The first half of New Year’s Day is gone for me basically. I went to bed at midnight, so I woke up late anyway. I’m trying to restart something I started in 2024: write a review of a book I read every day and post it on my blog and Bookstagram. Beginning with a novel, I told you I wanted to review in my December wrap-up, so here I am. The book is a self-published work titled Save Our Dogs by Molly Weinfurter. Am I surprised that most people rated this one highly? That would be a no, I gave it 5 five stars.

We meet Paisley, a 12-year-old girl who, as long as she can remember, has begged her parents for a dog of her own. On her 12th birthday, her wish came true. However, her parents thought she was old enough to learn a family secret, which is a family secret, and the way her parents earn a living was by secretly running a puppy mill.

They painted the picture as her being allowed to help as a reward, knowing she was an animal lover and used the puppy she was given as a way to keep her quiet, which made me so angry when that happened. Everything goes south when her bully at school finds out her secret, which she can’t admit to. Even if she wants to save the dog because she understands that things aren’t the way her parents are putting them. Content warning for abuse, animal cruelty and bullying.
