Freebie Friday #26

Last night, I stayed up till midnight trying to get through all my emails, but I still didn’t manage to get through them all. I hope everyone had a great Christmas. On the bright side, I’m on my third book today.

Hey Everyone

As you know, I’ve been trying a new thing for me, where I share a book I love and provide a free eBook link to it, if possible.

Why did I pick this novel?

I went to a book fair not that long ago, and I saw this novel, and to my surprise, it is set in Malta. For me, it’s rare to find a book set here, but it was too expensive, so I left it there, or so I thought, but my sister got it to me for Christmas. What I didn’t know was that it had time-travel, which is a hit or miss for me. Never Tear Us Apart by Rowan Coleman is a Historical Fiction set between 2025 and wartime. For me, it’s always interesting to see how a non-Maltese sees my country. The ending lacked a bit for me since I felt it was rushed.

First Lines:

‘Slow down, Maia,’ Dad says.

I speed up a little. We are arguing. Of course we are arguing we are together: a rare occurrence that never ends well. The hire car has air conditioning, but my father insists on having the windows down, allowing the afternoon heat to swell into every crevice. Sweat trickles down my back from the nape of my neck. My thighs stick to the faux-leather trim. I should have coughed up for a better car.

‘Dad, I’m not even over the speed limit,’ I tell him, nodding at the dash, as I expertly take a hairpin bend of the road from Sliema to Mdina. The roads are lined with prickly pear trees. Wildflowers burst into random riots of fleeting colour, lighting up the dry and dusty landscape. ‘I’ve driven in the Alps, in Ukraine, in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gobi Desert. I’ve driven in Paris. I know how to drive.’ ‘You don’t know to drive here,’ he insists

Goodreads Blurb:
