Pass or Smash Book Tag

As tradition dictates, in December, I’m doing a book tag. Well, I’m hoping everything goes smoothly, because on the day this post is scheduled, it’s my mother’s birthday, so if something goes awry, I’m not here to fix it. I was tagged in the Book Smash or Pass book tag. Now, I have always had a hard time figuring out which is the con and which is the pro, so I’m adding ‘good’ or ‘bad’ to every answer. Riddhi B. tagged me at Whispering Stories; the original creator is Becky’s Book Blog. Both blogs are worth a visit. Let’s get into it.

Bookish Tropes

Smash, (which I think is from the answers I read). I believe every reader has a book trope they love. Of course, we all have the ones we can’t stand, like a love triangle for me.

Alternating POV

Smash because you will get multiple points of view of what is happening.

Ambiguous Endings

For the reader in me, this is a pass, but for the writer in me, it’s always fun to fit my own ending, so I’m in the middle about this.

Non-fiction

This one depends on the mood, but if I pick up a nonfiction book, it’s a memoir, which I still consider nonfiction.

Historical Fiction

Smash: However, there is a but here, I rarely enjoy a historical fiction outside the period of WWII.

Morally Grey Characters

Pass: Since morally grey characters make me uncomfortable, which is likely the author’s goal.

First Person POV

Smash: I love first-hand stuff since it feels more personal and filled with emotions.

Audiobooks

I know this sounds odd, but I prefer my text-to-speech app because I can customise it to my needs.

Re-reading

Pass for two reasons, first, I always have an endless list of books to read and second, if I loved a novel, I want my memory of it to stay the same.

Classic Novels

Pass: My dyslexia prevents me from reading or understanding half of the words, so I end up fighting with myself.

Annotating

Pass: I can’t write by hand, and 99.9% of the time I get Ebooks.

Cracking Book Spines

This one is a pass for the same reason as the one above.

Character Driven Books

I love to learn all I can about the characters, so this is an all-around yes.

Past/Present Split Timeline

As I said, I love to learn all I can on the characters, so this is also a yes.

Heavy World Building

This one is a hard no, since I would feel I would need a map, and I’m not great at reading maps.

And that’s that!

I tag:

The Book Nook

Gems Book Nook
