Freebie Fridays #11

I feel pretty guilty because yesterday, I barely read anything, and since then, I have been averaging about two or three books finished a day. So, not having read anything isn’t great for my stats, but I’m on my second today, and I have a feeling I can finish it by tonight. My reading lists are helping me in a way because the aim of completing a list helps with the reading slump.

Hey Everyone,

As you know, I’ve been trying a new thing for me, where I share a book I love and provide a free ebook link to it, if possible.

Why did I pick this book?

The novel I picked today was the winner of the audiobook battle post, and to my shock, I enjoyed it a lot even though I listened to it at a slower speed than I’m used to with sound effects. So, it was very well done. I loved how the author inserted a line or two on topics like religion and social issues but left it open to the reader how much they want to think. You can guess a twist is coming, but I never managed to guess what it was, so there was an element of surprise to look forward to. I don’t want to say more due to spoilers.

First Lines:

If all we need is love, why do we always want more?
I dial her number. Again. Finally, she answers.
“I’m on my way, almost there,” my wife says without me having to ask. I can hear that she is driving, so she is heading home, but almost there sounds like a lie. She has a habit of stretching the truth into something more agreeable these days.
“You said you would be here,” I reply, sounding like a petulant child instead of a grown man. “This is important to me.”

Goodreads Blurb:

Author Grady Green is having the worst best day of his life.

Grady calls his wife to share some exciting news as she is driving home. He hears Abby slam on the brakes, get out of the car, then nothing. When he eventually finds her car by the cliff edge the headlights are on, the driver door is open, her phone is still there. . . but his wife has disappeared.

A year later, Grady is still overcome with grief and desperate to know what happened to Abby. He can’t sleep, and he can’t write, so he travels to a tiny Scottish island to try to get his life back on track. Then he sees the impossible — a woman who looks exactly like his missing wife.

Wives think their husbands will change but they don’t.
