I haven’t been doing these prompts this year because everything has been pretty overwhelming. My blog has low stats, which discouraged me from making content that I know doesn’t make sense. On top of that, I’m recovering from a reading slump, which started when the books I was reading were like two stars. It’s mainly my fault because I hate DNF’ing, especially if it is self-published work, and I know the struggle it takes. Coffee Addicted Writer is hosting this meme. They pick a bookish question weekly every Friday, and everyone can give their point of view.
21st – 27th – Sometimes, readers get into funks and maybe stop reading or feel like reading is work. What do you do to get yourself out of a reading funk? (submitted by Nicole @ The Christian Fiction Girl). As I said, I’m recovering from a reading slump, and I’m still not at my typical speed of finishing books, but I’m getting there. Here are some things I did while I wasn’t reading and mistakes I’m trying to avoid.
Listening to music:
Outside of when I need to listen to new music for my Monday posts or the radio on my way to work, I stuck to novels while I’m writing a post or researching for one.
Watching YouTube:
My cable TV company changed its boxes not long ago, so I can now stream YouTube on my old TV. Here’s a tip: If you are a true crime lover and you don’t have access to cable or Netflix, I’m sure you will find something you enjoy if you search for true crime.
Read a novel in verse:
They are easier to fly through and less loaded word-wise. I feel this format is very underrated.
Once I start a book, I have to finish it:
I have this habit that once I start a book, I have to finish it since I hate leaving in the middle of a story, even if I’m not enjoying it.
Alex
Been there so many times haha. It doesn’t help when the book you’re reading is a drag but you cannot quit haha.

“Once I start a book, I have to finish it:”… I’m the same way with books. Some though, should be put aside I think, if it’s too hard to keep going. I’ve only got two on my shelf that I haven’t been able to finish, which is a good thing for me.

Have you tried audiobooks? I recommend on your DNFing skills. I used to insist to finish a book once I started it. It killed the fun out of reading with some books. I still do not DNF much, but it happens. Or I switch to skimming, if I still want to go all the way to the end. Why torture myself, if I don‘t enjoy a book? There are no brownie points for it or free books afterwards… 😊

I’ve learned not to fight it, I just end up dnfing everything. The books will always be there, I’m in no rush lol
