I did this post once, and it was much fun, so I thought of doing it again. I’m talking about the try a chapter challenge. When you read the first chapter of several books and see the one that speaks to you the most, it will be your next read. I picked four diversity 2022 releases, and they are:
.Ophelia After All by Racquel Marie
• To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara
• Vinyl Moon by Mahogany L. Browne
• You Truly Assumed by Laila Sabreen
Before I start, I have to say that all four covers are stunning. The only author I read from before is Mahogany L. Browne because I read and loved Chlorine Sky, and the other three are new to me.

Thoughts about the first chapter Ophelia After All:
First of all, is it just me, or the opening line is pretty melodic? I already love the friendship, and Ophelia reminds me of Liz Lighty of You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson for some reason.

Thoughts about the first chapter To Paradise:
I can’t put my finger on the why, but it gives me Historical Fiction vibes. At the top of my mind, I can’t remind if it is or not. I will look at Goodreads and check once I finish this post. The fact that we see the affection and a same-sex couple in the first chapter makes my heart happy for what lies ahead.

Thoughts about the first chapter Vinyl Moon:
Mahogany L. Browne’s writing style is in verse and short paragraphs, so I don’t have a ton to off from. Still, from the conversation happening, I know that something life-changing happened and that it might have something to do with racism giving me The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas feelings.

Thoughts about the first chapter, You Truly Assumed:
What I see is a girl full of passion while having to endure the stereotypes about her race and culture put on her by society. Then a bombing happens that adds more fear and pain into her life. The only way I can describe how I’m feeling is close to tears.
Now for the hard part, pick the novel I want to read right now, and I couldn’t make it harder on myself to choose because they all sound amazing, and I want to read them all now. However, being human, I can read one at a time. So, I’m picking You Truly Assumed by Laila Sabreen.
PS: if you see any of the books in my February wrap up, it’s because I’m pre-blogging, and it is still February for me.
