First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book

Becca Lawson was living her dream. At least, she thought she was.
The scent of the ocean, the sound of splashing water, and the warm
spring breeze reminded her how perfect this moment was. Never in her life
had she feel so proud, so satisfied with herself. The idea that her best
friend Cadence was going to say, “I do!” to one of the Blackstone’s
bachelors was astounding. The Blackstone men were known for their killer
looks and deep pockets. As unreal as it was, here she was standing
between the rows of chairs, prepared for todays’ wedding ceremony.
