First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book
Lines
An explosion of bright, purple light lit up the thicket of trees that
surrounded me. It was an eerie brightness that only lasted for a few
seconds, but it was long enough to see the dozens of ruby-red eyes staring
back at me.
I turned to run and stumbled over a jagged tree branch that had fallen to
the ground. I fell and hit the earth hard enough to rattle my teeth. My heart
was pounding and although my hands were shaking I managed to brace
them on the leaf-covered floor to push myself to a standing position. As I
straightened my leg a searing hot pain erupted along the length of it and I
had to bite my lip to stop myself from screaming.
This is a new release from a fellow blogger, and my review is coming tomorrow.
