Due to a better quality of life, people are living longer. However, living longer might mean that our support system isn’t there anymore, leading to loneliness. Stoke-on-trend is a BBC project that started last March where people of a certain age can meet at the Chatty café and meet people, make friends and make plans.
I think there are a few outlets to the chatty café meeting one of them being The Chatty Cafe Scheme it all started on a cold and wet where a mother of a 4-year-old wasn’t a very talkative company so looked around the coffee shop and an elderly lady who looked just as down as her and a young man and his social work who seen to run out of things to talk about. So, she thought about what will happen if they sit together on and a table and chat.
Since as she knew from her daily life, she thought that learning for each other and chatting together over a cup of café can brighten the day of someone. She came up with the idea of ‘Chatter & Natter’ table her dream become a reality, with now 900 cafés taking part in The Chatty Cafe Scheme and everyone can join no matter the age, race or what life you lead.
In January of 2019 they won the award of Innovate in Ageing, and I indeed believe that The Chatty Cafe Scheme is winning against the fight of loneliness.
