Three YouTubers With Disability To Check Out

I am writing this introduction on my phone because, at the moment, my ‘helper’ Abby has her head all over my keyboard, and when she thinks she’s not getting enough attention, she starts a kissing session, so not so productive. In my line of work, something that I hear which pushes my buttons is looking ‘normal’, which means that you don’t really have a disability. First of all, there are invisible disabilities. Second, you aren’t entitled to know anyone’s health history. Here are five disability YouTubers who help close the gap to an accessible world for everyone. They will truly show you how to live life to the full.

Roll with Cole & Charisma

At the prime age of 16, Cole was having fun with his friends when he went to dive, and he broke his neck and became instantly a quadriplegic. In a recent short video uploaded to YouTube, he spoke about how important it is to take care of your mental health and therapy. If I have the story right, that’s how he met his wife, Charisma, in rehab.

Squirmy and Grubs

Shane Burcaw has Spinal Muscular Atrophy and has been an activist for a number of years. I started following his journey when I was watching a documentary about disability, which led me to look him up and his memoir, Laughing at My Nightmare. This, in turn, took me to the Squirmy and Grubs channel, where he does content with his wife Hannah about being an iterable couple while taking life with a touch of humour.

Molly Burke

Molly was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just age four, and she started speaking publicly about vision loss and disability at age five. She does reviews on how accessible beauty products are and the beauty industry. She advocates for independent living with tools such as devices to make life more so.

If you enjoyed this list, let me know, and I can do a part two; I also would like to do a post on caregiving, even pointing out things in the system. The other post I have been thinking about is the topic of dating as queer and disabled, although sharing my current thoughts on this scared the crap out of me. Everyone’s channel is linked in the name.
