Today was my first day back to work after the holidays, and I’m not in the mood to switch on the laptop, so I’m writing on my phone. Since I’m aware my eyes will close from tiredness way before I can finish this post, I will rant and see where it goes. I thought that was all I had written, but a start is a start. The interesting thought is that the book reviews do much better on my blog than on Instagram view-wise. Since I haven’t been posting on Bookstagram for a while, it feels like a start all over, but hopefully, I’m here to stay.
Do you think that holiday reads should be read seasonally or all year? As a mood reader, I can pretty much read them all day, especially when I’m looking for a light read. Yesterday, I started and finished Scrooge and the Girls Next Door by Melanie Jacobson; it is the 4th book in the Creekville Kisses Series, and I do believe that I have other books in the series on my Kindle so I can continue with the series. However, each novel has its own story so that it can be read as a standalone work.
We meet Paige, who is a single mother to her daughter Evie, who, let me tell you, is the sweetest child. Paige is a fierce and independent woman who wants to prove that she can do it by herself. Thinking that accepting help is a weakness, which she learns isn’t the case as the story goes by. I loved the character growth since it gave a human sense that made me connect more to Paige as a character.
She’s buying her first home, which is where we meet the grumpy neighbour, Henry. Henry is pretty much the local Scrooge, so he’s not a fan of Paige and Evie’s cheery attitude about the holiday season. The whole neighbourhood becomes a war of Christmas decorations, with some people wanting them and some not. I gave it four stars.
