WWW Wednesday #5

It’s moving week for me, so I don’t know much reading I have time to do, but I still need to read because readathin starts today. Be-sure-a-thon sprints were the reason I managed to read 50 books last January. It’s 8 C here, pretty cold for Malta since the typical winter temperature is in the 20s. Sam is currently hosting WWW Wednesday from Taking On A World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Priestess

Loyalty is a fickle thing, but I’ve found mine in two men.

Nothing about them is the same, yet the similarities that only I can see, are enough to draw me to them. I want to protect one and destroy the other, but what happens when their true intentions are brought to light?

They see me as someone to worship—or so I thought.

Danger is on the horizon and I’ll face it head on because that’s just the kind of gal I am.

The Devil

Feelings are boring and emotions are useless, yet the one thing I want in this world seems to keep eluding me.

A beautiful evil carefully disguised as someone who knows how to pull my strings and can stop me before it’s too late. For her? For me? For her friend? I don’t know.

I see her for what she really is and she won’t be able to keep slipping out of reach.

Why?

Because eventually, even the devil gets his due.

The Burden

Life isn’t something that’s been easy for me, yet her presence alone makes it all seem worth it.

I never expected to feel what I do for someone who I know should be out of reach, but it’s not just her anymore. It’s him too, and he knows it.

They both do.

They play me against each other. One testing my loyalty, the other testing my ability to feel, and I let them.

I can’t live without one, but I know that I won’t be able to survive if I cross the other.

Times are going to become more difficult and even though I know what side I should choose, I’m afraid that when faced with the choice, I’ll lead with my heart and not with my head.

Don’t going to lie, this is falling flat for me but, will read it for the heck of it.

Goodreads Blurb:

After inexplicably breaking the 100m world record, Calli is whisked away to a secret facility where she’s placed with other teens who possess superhuman speed. She soon finds herself in a deadly situation involving other superpowers, a mystical diamond, and a centuries-old clan vying for world domination. Calli will have to rely on her quick wit and gut instinct to navigate her new world which includes secretly carrying a power-infusing diamond, all the while steering clear of the young man who mistakenly believes she’s his soulmate.

Book one of The Unaltered series introduces a secret universe existing within our own. In this world, cosmic energy grants superhuman abilities, and people of like ability band together in clans for both safety and community. Governments spy on clans, clans spy on governments, and trusting the wrong person may carry a terrible price.

I was surprised by how much I liked it, being that it is an urban fantasy.

Goodreads Blurb:

Spencer Crane thinks I’m a human tornado.

I think he’s a calendar app come to life.

While he schedules? I spin-out.

When I spontaneously combust? He overcompensates.

And this is why convincing my new boss to hire him is a completely brilliant idea.

You see, workplace romance is forbidden, but attraction between total opposites like Spencer and me is a non-issue.

I repeat: Non. Issue.

I only wish I hadn’t discovered Mr. Clark Kent Glasses is (secretly) scorchingly hot. Even worse, he’s funny and chivalrous, and shoving me straight out of my Tess the Mess comfort zone.

But we both need this job. Like, a lot. And if our boss catches wind of any fraternization, we’ll be fired. Not to mention my heart’s already at risk of being axed.

So when Spencer starts treating me like I’m a magnet and he’s a fistful of iron, I’ve got a tornado-sized problem on my hands.

Starting now, I’m doubling down. I absolutely cannot fall for Spencer Crane.

Even if my total opposite might be everything I need …

I have read from this series before, so expecting to be good.
