I always talk about the trans guy experience because that is my journey and something that I lived with the colours and the emotions. From my point of view, non-binary people don’t get the same exposure as trans men and women get in terms of laws. Most of the non-binary people I met face the same issues as people from either end of The Gender Spectrum.
So, I think representation in the media is key for the young and the old. The reason for this is that any kind of transition is a journey of self-discovery and understanding. Which is why, when I saw this article, I thought it was vital to share. Here are 20 celebrities that came as non-binary:
Demi Lovato:

I relate to Demi because not only are they one of my favourite singers, but they always had to hit rock bottom to get the courage to show the world their true selves.
Jonathan Van Ness:

I don’t think anyone from the LGBTIQ+ community doesn’t enjoy one part or another of the reality show Queer Eye. Jonathan Van Ness is the grooming expert of Queer Eye America and Queer Eye: We’re In Japan. While in an interview with the magazine Out, this: Even if he doesn’t identify as a man, he prefers to stay with the masculine pronouns “he/him.” Van Ness continues, nonetheless, to live his life to the fullest outside of gender roles.
Sam Smith:

In 2019, Sam Smith first came out in an interview with actress Jameela Jamil and, later, with a post on Instagram. For a minute there, I thought they had changed their name because I would have betted and lost that they were the singer with Demi on the track What Other People Say.
Thank you for reading, and I’m planning to do a whole series like this post, but I want to hear your thoughts first, so please let me know.
Alex
Tomorrow is that book club for the book Gender Queer. I enjoyed this article. I like how open Demi is with their struggles. Sam Smith was on SNL last night and I dvr’ed it.
