Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by thatartsyreadergirl with a new topic every week.
October 4: Favorite Bookstores OR Bookstores I’d Love to Visit (The UK celebrated National Bookshop Day on October 1, so I thought it would be a fun topic!)
So, I guess it’s time to go around the world and look at the best bookstores, in my opinion. The main issue I have with libraries and bookshops is accessibility, and the most common excuse I hear is: that the building is too old. In most cases, I encounter some things that could be done, like detached ramps.

- The Strand Bookstore is an independent bookstore.
- It is located at 828 Broadway, at the corner of East 12th Street in the East Village neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York City.
- It was opened in 1927 by Benjamin Bass.

- The El Ateneo Grand Splendid bookshop is at Santa Fe Avenue in Barrio Norte.
- It was a theatre in 1919, and then it was converted into a cinema ten years ago.
- It opened as a bookstore in 2010 and still has the beautiful original opera boxes and ceiling frescoes intact.

- Opened in 2004 by Luigi Frizz.
- Situated at Calle Lunga Santa Maria Formosa, 5176b, 30122 Venezia
- The bookshop layout is unique because books are placed in bathtubs, rowboats, plastic bins, and one full-size gondola.
I don’t have any ideas on how to make it accessible if it isn’t already.
- Michael Powell opened it in 1970 with a $3,000 loan.
- It is nicknamed the City of Books since it is one of the largest independent bookshops.
- The now CEO Miriam Sontz told Literary Hub. “I don’t think any other bookstore comes close. But size is not the issue—we have picked a million of the best books. That’s an accomplishment, and because we sell some every day, we need to be constantly choosing the next best books to put on our shelves.”

- The Livraria Lello & Irmão is commonly known as the Lello Bookstore in English.
- It is said that it was the place that inspired J. K. Rowling to create Hogwarts.
- It has a stunning stained glass skylight and bronze reliefs of literary figures carved into the wooden bookshelves lined with leather-bound books.
It’s more like the top five this week; I have been researching most of the day, and nothing caught my eye apart from these five, sorry. However, I hope to like some places in your posts.

I’d love to visit all of these-the Venice & Portuguese ones are probably the most likely ones I’d be able to get to though, as Europe is not as far away for me as the US or South America!

I had no idea that The Livraria Lello & Irmão inspired Hogwarts. That would be really fun to visit someday. I’d love to go to Powell’s Books as well. A few of my friends have been there and they said it was a great experience. 😀
