Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (Book Review)

I know I just posted a review of You Truly Assumed, but I had to review this one too. So, last month I went on Twitter and asked for book recommendations, and someone recommended I read Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, so I got it and read it. As you know, I’m not particularly eager to read the blurb of a book because they tend to have too many spoilers, and yes, just a warning is close to 600 pages.

When I added it to my Goodreads TBR, the only thing I noticed was that it is listed as Historical Fiction, so I went into it thinking it would be this everyday romance; man was I wrong! The first five chapters were intriguing, yet nothing made sense. Then at one point, I built this story of how everything will go, then I turned the page, and there was a huge twist that turned the story on its head.

In a way, it’s a case of rich to poor and poor to rich. To get the whole picture, you need to read all the views from every character. Another thought I had was how feelings could change a situation but at the same time how being put in a difficult position can change the way you feel. It’s sad yet so honest how the people around them have played both main characters. Even now that I read it, I’m not sure if the library is leading or misleading the reader. One thing I know for sure is that this novel takes you on a rollercoaster, and I gave it 4.5 stars.
