My Thoughts On The Fundamentals of Caregiving Movie

The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving by Jonathan Evison

Caregiving is not a job for everyone, and why is it you might ask? I had a caregiver pretty much since I was born. Here are my thoughts on the movie The Fundamentals of Caregiving. Ben is a retired writer whose life is falling apart after losing all he had, and his wife just gave him the divorce papers. When he gives a job as Trevor caregiver.

We meet Trevor, a young guy who at the age of 3, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, who caused his dad to run out of his life. At 18 he moved to the USA from the UK with his mum Elsa who hired Ben. Trevor does the same routine day in and day out which basically he stays in the living room and watches TV. This left him with the feeling of emptiness.

Ben convinces Elsa to let them go on this road trip to go to see the world’s deepest pit. While on the road, Trevor asks to go see his dad in the hope to get questions answered. They did paint a realistic picture when it makes to the accessibility issues that wheelchair users deal with almost daily.

However, it does upset me to see an able-bodied actor plays a disabled character, and this is my reasoning there are disabled actors out there who don’t get as many jobs compared to an able-bodied person. This movie is based on the book The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, which I’ll be reading soon.
