I’m excited and scared to show you guys what I’ve been working on in the last few months. I’m currently writing my next book, which is a novel in verse. So, I figured what best way to poetry month then giving a taste of what to out for next from me.
When it all started
To learn my ABC’s
mum got out
all the school books and
with a ruler and a pen,
she made me some lines
so, I could write on them
She told me to sit
“You need to copy the words clear and neat
or you’ll have to start all over again.”
I looked at the page
and words started flying on the page
I blinked
and the words looked normal again.
At Dinner Time
After mum help me
with my homework
mum tried to come up with dinner
but all we had
were two slices of stale bread
and some expired jam.
Mum made me a sandwich
with the two
slices of bread
and went without food
for tonight.
“Eat girl, you still
need to grow and see the world.”
Dad Came Home
Smelling of alcohol
told us we were to pack and move
house the next day
He started laughing and yelling at the top of his lungs
throwing anything that comes
in his hands
mum told me to go
to the other room
With my hands on my ears
praying that the yelling would stop
my eyes closed
and tears falling down
I put
myself
to sleep.
Monday Blues
On my walk to school
my mind
went into this world
where I have a kind dad
and all the food that my heart desires
I hear my name
Paige, Paige
I blink and focus
I see my friend Beth
waving her hand in front of my face.
Are you okay?
fine
the school bell rings
Beth holds my hand
and my heart starts
to beat a little bit
faster.
In Class
We all stand up
when Ms Shakespeare enters
the door to tell her
Good Morning
she tells us that
we will turn
our sentences
into little books
then hang them
on a piece of rope
the class ceiling
to decorate
the class
with our
beautiful
Aunt Liz
Came to pick me up from school
told me that mum called her
and told her
to take me
to her house
for a few days
at Aunt Liz’s home
I can eat anything I want
because she always has all
my favourite foods
in her fridge
and I get to
play with her dog
Ella
all-day

Have you ever thought about publishing?

Yea, but I need an editor and they are too expensive for me. I can send you a copy if you want though I’m telling you it has mistakes.

I completely understand the editing thing. I am self published, and was my own editor, hence I ended up publshing a book with quite a few typos! My advice would be to just read whatever you wrote several times, take your time and not read too much at one time.
