May 12: The Last Ten Books I Abandoned (this could be books you DNFed, books you decided you were no longer interested in, etc.) (submitted by Claire @ Book Lovers Pizza)
I have a feeling that this week’s topic will help me to get rid of some books.
I actually was supposed to buddy read this book with someone, but I couldn’t get into it.
I read the first few pages, and I couldn’t finish it, which is a shame because I love books set in the World War II era.
Read the first two books, and I honestly couldn’t be bothered to finish the last two.
Reading about Gods and stuff isn’t my thing right now.
I try to read it some many times since it’s a queer memoir, but it’s like it didn’t match with me even after I read the first 100 pages.
After the blurb, I found that it is a bit spicier than what I like my books to be, so I’m deleting it from my kindle, which is a shame because I just got this book. (it was free)
I got these just because they were a boxset ebook and it was free, but in reality, I’m never going to read them, so they are going.
Got this for a book club and then they didn’t like it, so I never read it.
I got this boxset before I found out that I’m not a fan reading BDMS so now I don’t need it.
Please keep in mind that these are only my opinions.
Alex
Been a while since I commented on your blog! I’ve been a terrible user of the reader as of late. ;P I got through Dragon Tattoo on this list, but my goodness was it rough. I think it helped that I’ve known enough Swedes that I could get a little bit of the political criticisms out of the story, because without that the story was (imo) pointlessly sordid.

The Book Thief is lying around here, waiting to be red. I’m curious if I can get into it. I’ve heard that it is a good book but sometimes it’s not a fit.

I have read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (two of the books in the series, I think) and The Book Thief… The Book Thief was definitely hard to get into, as it is told through the eyes of death. Once I got past that, I finished it in a couple of days.
Usually once I get a few pages or chapters in, I can’t put the book down.

I thought about putting it down a couple of times, but once I got into it… I finished it in a couple days. Dr. Zhivago was the hardest book I’ve ever read. It took me a couple of months, and every time I picked it back up, I had to go back a few pages and reread.

I couldn’t get into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo either. It was a long time ago when I tried to read it so I can’t really remember what I didn’t like about it. And I read Breaking Dawn when I was starting to get really bored with Twilight so I never finished it.

The Dragon Tattoo book is an eye opener–the entire series. I loved it through and through. I am a Twilight fan but i could live without Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Ever read ‘The Extra’. It is a hilarious book about an extra in a daily soap. Try it.

I hate myself for it … I mean with so many books on my TBR mountain why read a book I’m not enjoying? … but I’m one of those readers who HAVE to see a book through to the end – just in case I miss something; that it has such a wonderful ending that it makes all those hours wading through it worth it. Since I started blogging some 11 years ago I can only remember giving up on one. However of the books I could have happily not finished Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty comes to mind as does The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy

Guessing I’m just not into young adult fiction. There was the occasional gem like «In the forests of the night», by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, which I liked; it was a prequel to a series of vampire stuff—this was the dawn of the emo-vampire craze—but after trying to read the following book, I dropped the series because it was more emo than the hardcore, more old-fashioned stuff I liked. After «The Lost Symbol» I don’t read Dan Brown’s books anymore because they all felt rushed, to meet deadlines, and didn’t lack the depth or explanations for conspiracies like older works.
The Harry Potter books. Not only were the books shallow for my interest—they’re meant for kids, not adults—but JK Rowling is a known terf. But given how much the fandom means to certain friends, I keep my mouth shut.
In general I’ve stopped reading long-form fiction, but if I see some form of short fiction recommended, something I can read in a few minutes to a few hours, or when I get around to it certain graphic novels I keep wanting to read, I’ll eat it all up. Just often don’t come in ebook form. Hopefully once colored eink becomes commercially viable for this medium and more graphic novels are released in a digital format, I’ll download whatever corresponding app I need, and read them on my iPad.

I agree with several of your choices. Although The Book Thief held my interest, it can be slow going. Might want to watch the movie though. It was well done.
